Oftentimes, I will be hugely disappointed by a book I highly anticipated. I am happy to say, Touch was not one of them! Odd names aside, this was pretty great.

Touch starts off with a bang. Dez is coming home drunk from a party (yes... drunk.) and whadya know! Crashes straight into a very attractive guy who is on the run. What better a chance to bring him home and piss off her dad? Plus, she's kind of curious as to what's up with him.

Dez is someone you definitely either hate or love. Because she is a downright slut. I'm not going to edge around the bush; she claims she used to be quiet and a good-girl, but then came along a bad-boy. And whoopdidoo she becomes a naughty girl. Basically, she's the kind of girl who goes to huge parties, gets drunk, gets high off adrenaline, always is up for a hook up, and wears the slut badge with pride. However, she's also very brave (and reckless) and once she decides something, she sticks with it and fights for it. 

And when she fights, she goes all out. She's tough and she's definitely got the smart-ass vibe going.

But I'm telling you now: if you hate reading from a slutty POV (and I mean all-out slutty) then you will not like this book. One bit. But, while I do not endorse slutdom, I still found Dez really amusing and fun.

Kale. Oooooh baby, if Kale was a ticket he'd have FINE stamped all over him! Because of his nature, I found him hilarious (but he's not funny on purpose) and yet secretly seductive. I mean, just look at that book cover up there. Just take five minutes and just stare.

I know I did.

He's tough, a protector true to heart, damaged, yet somehow very lovable/sweet. (with the right person)

The overall plot was decent. It definitely could've been better. However, I still feel it was a good job. I'm looking forward to the next one! :) It's a quick read and pretty light, so try it out!

I'm going to be honest, this wasn't my cup of tea. So I'm going to try to be as honest yet nice as possible, because I think ranting-Cassie isn't very pleasing.

Glitch begins... oh shoot I don't even remember. I think she's glitching in her bedroom and is freakin' out. Yawnnn.

Zoe, short for Zoel, was someone you really can't relate to. Unless, of course, you are an emotionless person/computer. If you can, I'm sorry if I offended you but I really couldn't because all I got from her was helpless, angry, innocent, and possibly lame  *cough* confused. Whenever stuff got too deep for her, she turned on her computer self and tuned out the world. She lost herself in no feelings, or sometimes she 'let herself feel the pain because she deserved it'.
There's something wrong with that sentence.

Can you see it?

Uhh the guys... okay Adrien was cool stuff, like, really, he'd be totally hot to me IF I COULD SENSE HER EMOTIONS!!! She goes, oh his eyes... Oh he's so nice... Oh he's so useful!

This is what I have to say to that.

Max.

See, if Max wasn't introduced to us as he was, like "Oh let's try this out!" (you know what I mean? Sort of innocent and stuff) then I'd say ERMERGERSH YER SO HOT. Okay, no. No. Not at all. But he was the only interesting character in the book. And, unfortunately, he was blonde.

Interestingly enough, I've found my fingers itching towards forks more often when the guy is blonde in a book.

Yeah, so the story was sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow for me, but hey. If you like tech stuff, GO FOR IT. I applaud you. I'm just not that kind of geek, so I couldn't be like...

Boyfriend From Hell begins with Suze, Megan's mom, seeing how Megan thinks of her starting to date. Oh it starts out funny. I was snorting in my room (thankfully I wasn't reading it downstairs...) and yes, I do snort.

Anyways, Megan is a funny POV to read, and her extreme tactics are very entertaining. 

Megan is a character who could definitely make or break the book. She's always doing something, usually without thinking, is quick to blurt her thoughts out (or just her opinions), and is pretty funny. She collects trivia, is on the math team, and is good in school. That is, until, Guy Matson comes along. 

Guy Matson... is a mysterious guy. His background? Not much, except he's new. His personality? Too smart for his own good and knows it. He's comfortable with anyone in any situation. 

I, social loner as I am, was pretty jelly.

His appearance? Hmm, let's go with, dark hair dark eyes tan skin (I think) and basically pulls off any outfit.

Yet again, I find myself jelly. (The pulls-off-any-outfit part, since I already look like that and that'd be awkward for all of us if I meant that)

Maudrina was cool. I just wish she had cats instead of dogs. Because cats are awesome.

I didn't like the other characters, possibly because I wasn't supposed to. Matt? Sweet guy, but he's a redhead. Y'all know what that means. HE HAS NO SOUL. Okay, just kidding, but he gave me the creepies.

Hm?

Anyways, Erin seemed very witchy and Suze was ehh and Armando was creep x1000000000.

The plot was actually hilarious and good. Seriously. Ohhh man, Megan's obsession with holy water, crucifixes, and hexagons was great. I think you should definitely try this one; it's a quick read, you'll laugh out-loud at many parts, and well, you can think of that picture up there whenever you see Matt's name.

Cover Reveal: Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins

I'm not gonna lie guys, I think I had a mini heart attack today in school when I saw the cover reveal. My fellow Fairy Rafia texted me a picture of it (she was out of school) and I seriously had a freak out. I am positive people nearby were giving me a wide berth and looking at me like... o.O
I also ran into a lot of people as my eyes bugged out, so that may or may not have been a cause.

Sweet Peril is something I was freaking out about back in the summer. I had heard it wasn't for sure going to be published and I... I couldn't handle it. If it wasn't going to go through, I was going to slap the nearest sexy person I saw. It had to get published and THANK THE HEAVENS IT DID! This is a series you don't want to miss. Dear God, no. If you don't read it, you have not claimed a part of your soul yet.
Yes.
It's that serious.
Let's just say Kaidan Rowe blew our minds.

Ahem, I don't know about you but that summary made me want to read it, pronto. And no, of course it wasn't because my daddy warned me about boys like this. *coughs awkwardly* Why not read about one if I can't (YET. Yes Dad, I said YET!) experience one? Lemme tell you-it was worth every page.

Here it is!

But oh. Oh. Oh Lordy I need a fan. Did I just read "steamiest of temptations" and "Anna and Kaidan" in the same sentence? It's going to be good. And that cover? My spaz in my high school explains it all. It is beyond words. I will kiss it the moment I get my paws on it.

Shadow of the Mark by Leigh Fallon is book two in The Carrier Trilogy. The first book was Carrier of the Mark. Now, in case you aren't familiar, here it is...

Starters begins with Callie walking into Prime Destinations, just checking out the place. She's just half-considering the idea but is amazed at their luxuries. Fresh, cold water at an endless supply. Clean, expensive seats. Supertrouffles given as gifts. What could be better? If they're willing to give her this just as someone thinking about it, the idea of renting out her body for loads of money is majorly appealing. But something her dad once said makes her pause. So she leaves, and notices how desperate and surprised everyone is that she left. 

She returns the next day, beat-up, and eager to sign the contract.

So, I did like Starters, but I was pretty disappointed. I had this big hope that, hey! This sounds amazing, I've heard a lot about it, and the cover is like nothing I've seen! Ahhh young me, stupid me... I have this horrible habit of judging... my dad likes to call me a judgmental recluse. 

In nicer words of course.

Anyways, you should try this out, but it's definitely a borrow/library check-out. The idea of the environment gained major cool points. The idea of body rentals gained major +'s. Callie's all-shall-bend-to-my-will attitude gained major Cassie points. But alas, the relationships were a big, red X. And then the lack of descriptions of the Spore Wars and overall situation were major -'s. So they sort of balanced out, but I must say it was a quick read.

Callie, our main character, was.... interesting. (Interesting and questionable are both words you'll find I use to describe things/people I don't have anything to say about but want to sound smart) Basically, we find that 1.) she's perfect. legit. Because, you know, totally Hunger Games style, she's buffed and made-up to perfection

2.) she's got a killer instinct. You know, from living off the streets. Kind of like Katniss, now that I think about it...

3.) she risks her life for money. Now, Katniss doesn't really do this, but Gale puts himself in a lot of danger for the food.

4.) she lives to protect her younger brother Tyler. Hmm, this sounds awfully close to Prim...

I found a few suspicious things like this but, I must continue. She's likeable I suppose, and definitely tough. She's a risk-taker, but still enjoys luxuries. Plus, she has a soft spot for an almost-perfect attractive young male. That'll make the story interesting ;)

The other characters felt a little flat to me, like they fulfilled a purpose and that's it. The only semi-interesting person I thought was the villain (of course) but I can't even say he's sexy 'cuz I don't know what the heck he looks like. But I like to imagine that underneath the mask he wears (oh yes, our villain wears a mask) he is extremely gorgeous and young and has smoldering eyes. *awkwardly coughs* So shoot me. I like myself a smolder. (Tangled reference anyone!!?)

And, ya know, if our villain looks like Ian SMOLDERhalder, so be it.

The plot was full of action, but the details were a bit questionable. (See? there.) I usually am not one to ask, Now how did THAT happen? But somehow this got me asking. Not in a good way. BUT. You will like the plot. I swear it.

I will probably read the next book (there better be one, otherwise I'm slapping someone) because I do want to happen to our villain (perhaps I shall call him Smolderhalder just for the sake of it) and I do want to know if he's as undeniably gorgeous as I hope he is.

NIGHTWATCHERS

When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...

Nightwatchers really wasn't what I expected, and I won't tell you if that's a bad thing or not. I think this one is for people with a really specific taste and I just didn't have that specific taste. This is an interesting book it's just I couldn't get into the groove.

It begins with a prologue. Bishop is getting prepared to go somewhere... and he has to get prepared by the gatekeeper. Bishop is certain he'll be prepared for his mission, despite the warnings.

The next chapter is Samantha and her best friend at the all-age club. Her "number-one unattainable crush" is staring at her and wants to talk to her.

Samantha is not someone I like to read about. I feel like she'd be great to hang out with, but to read from her perspective seriously made me want to throw something of hers in a fire and dance around that fire while chanting (Gregorian chants!!) witch spells. (By the way I listened to Gregorian chants in bio Friday. Made me scream)

Don't get me wrong, Samantha's a cool chick. But that's sort of why I didn't like her; she knew she was cool and was always like "I use my sarcasm and snark whenever nervous" It's like, no, REALLY?? Just spell it out for us, will you? It bugs me when someone knows and takes pride in her 'abilities'. She was just way too opinionated for me. Some people make me almost pee my pants with their opinions and gasp from laughing, but Sam made me almost have a headache.

Bishop lacked a spark for me. Don't get me wrong; that cover of him (at least I think so...) pretty much shows you he is drop dead sexayyy. But his emotions just threw me all around! No, he lacked that attractive Will-Herondale-brooding vibe, yet he was broody. Some people pull it off but then there are people like so...

And you kind of cringe and think, does his head hurt yet? and then I don't really care.

There wasn't much action, but then again I had to skim it so I didn't get a headache. Basically, the plot is super cool. It's actually really creative but (wait for it...) lacking.

BUT.

If you like broody fallen angels who are unnaturally attractive and snarky (and-she-knows-it! [did anyone get that sexy and I know it reference? Really hoping so...]) heroines and a creative, slightly lacking in action plot, then this book is for you! And either way you should try it out. 

You know, just 'cuz.

I'll admit, when I read this I was hoping for a taste of Shadow and Bone in a different world, and had a feeling that this supposedly "dangerous" world which would be difficult to survive in was actually going to be lame-ish. I was dead wrong. This is a pretty disturbing world, despite the very pretty cover.

It starts out with Lark sneaking into her school through the now-never-used sewer system. Tomorrow is Harvest Day, when the kids get told who gets harvested this year. Everyone in her age group got Harvested years ago, but not her. All the other kids know her name, and refer to her as the "dud", which makes Lark humiliated and hopeful she'll finally get Harvested. She finds the list... blahblahblah... and suddenly, when a mechanical, Institute-controlled pixie attacks her, she somehow smashes it with magic (aka Resource). No one should be able to do that. Especially not her, a "dud".

Lark is one of those characters who I didn't love or hate, she's just sort of there. While I did root for her, if she were to win I wouldn't go "YEAH BABY!" while simultaneously doing a victory dance, and if she were to lose I wouldn't do a rage-quit and go cannibal on anyone within a one mile radius.

Oren is the wild guy who's stalking her. Okay, I'll admit, it was a bit creepy. But I wanted to slap someone silly as the story progressed and Lark had, like, no romantic interest in him! I was like, "Girl, if I were in your position I wouldn't be so stupid to not see he cared about me!!!" and then I may or may not jump him. Because, really, who doesn't like a sexy sexy guy who is totally wild and slightly too moody and has really pale blue eyes and light brown hair beneath a ton of dirt? (mind you I'd find that dirt sexy too) So yes there's a plot twist I won't tell you but still I'd take him. Plot twist, dirt, and wildness all.

Yeah there are a few other characters that are probably important but they're not too amazing or jaw-dropping so I'm skipping over them.

The world is what we're really paying for here. It's rich in details and immaculately described so well that if read fast you will miss it and deem it horrible. But if you're really soakin' it up, you'll be amazed! It opens your eyes to a perspective that sees everything 'normal' as terrifying, awe-inspiring, yet strangely and darkly beautiful.

Good elements and I highly recommend you read this when you feel like being scared :)

I have spent every summer since I was ten years old with my father in London. Every summer, since I was ten years old, has been uneventful and boring.
Until this year.

And this year, after a freak volcanic eruption strands me far from home, I have learned these things:

1. I can make do with one outfit for three days before I buy new clothes.
2. If I hear the phrase, “You’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto,” even one more time, I might become a homicidal maniac.
3. I am horribly and embarrassingly allergic to jellyfish.
4. I am in love with Dante Giliberti, who just happens to be the beautiful, sophisticated son of the Prime Minister of a Mediterranean paradise.
5. See number four above. Because it brings with it a whole slew of problems and I’ve learned something from every one of them.

Let’s start with the fact that Dante’s world is five light-years away from mine. He goes to black-tie functions and knows the Prime Minister of England on a first name basis. I was born and raised on a farm in Kansas and wear cut-off jeans paired with cowboy boots. See the difference?

But hearts don’t care about differences. Hearts want what they want. And mine just wants to be Dante’s girl.

My heart just might be crazy.

Maybe I was a little high off of summer, or maybe it was the Owl City song I was listening to, but when I read the review, I completely fell in love with Dante’s Girl. I have this new thing for contemporary summer romances, a little late for summer, but Dante’s Girl fit the bill perfectly! It was fun, it was fast, and I was satisfied with the ending even though I would love to read another book about Dante and Reece.

I guess the reason I really liked this book was because how cute it was. It wasn’t perfect but I just loved the storyline. I loved watching Reece and Dante fall in love, especially in the gorgeous Mediterranean background. The ups and downs were honestly perfect! I loved the twist and some were just swoon-worthy. My favorite parts though? When something would happen to Reece or Dante and the other would freak out and the love behind it?? *dying* They’re relationship was too perfect.

Reece was a little annoying in the beginning but she came to her senses (thank god!) and manned up. She was down to earth, real, and was pretty smart at times. She was sensible (I respect that!) and was really caring. I love that she’s from Kansas; it just makes her so real. She seems like a person I would be friends with and that’s saying a lot!

Andd the best for the last!! Dante…oh how you have raised my standards for guys at my high school. Like the sexy son of a Prime Minister with manners to match? I want one! He was a really deep character with a lot of family problems and high expectations that I could randomly relate to. Dante was really deep character with a lot of love and I just love that! He wasn’t the classic bad boy and didn’t try to be and was still perfect. Dante seemed like the kind of guy who would be perfect for a long, sweet relationship filled with love, not passion.

The side plot was a little weak and didn’t really pick up till later which made me a little frustrated but overall Dante’s Girl was such a great summer read! This is my first post in a while, so sorry I haven’t been on, so kudos to Cassie for being amazing with updating! So don’t forget to comment and follow until next time!

Waking Storms and the Lost Voices Trilogy left a very interesting aftertaste in my reader 'mouth'. Normally, I would throw down this book and be like, "NO MORE!! NO MORE." Of course, in that situation I'd probably go and raid the pantry for comfort food. So I decided I'd brave it and just stick with it and it's definitely a book that will stay with you.

In my not-so-trusty opinion (and slightly deranged if you ask the right people) this book is sort of like a drug that you know will leave you fifty shades of messed up and disturbed but in the moment, it's like a negative rainbow just sprouted in your brain, mouth, and possibly pinky toe. And yes, negative rainbows on pinky toes are totally in and extremely sexy, or so my sources tell me.

Anyways, I can't really remember how Waking Storms begins, probably because I began this books freaking weeks ago. I just couldn't finish it. I kept telling myself, "Let's go Cassie! If we can brave a hundred more pages we'll sneak in a scoop of ice cream!" And it wasn't really helping... It was just so dark... and haunting... and lush... and dazzlingly tragic... and enchanting... and yes I'm stealing that from the front cover. But it's all true.

This is how I imagined I would be when I finished the book...

Yeah no.

Luce.. bugged me. But it's probably 'cause she lacked, as I like to call it, a "mean gene". She had her temper, but for a murdering mermaid it was totally subdued. I was hoping she'd unleash the (RAINBOW! Starbursts!! Wait... we're talking about mermaids.... crap.) power. Unfortunately, she didn't. But she's chill man, you know? Like totally down... and yep my druggie talk right there.

Dorian if you're reading this I'm legit gonna burn you alive. I wouldn't even have to bait myself with ice cream I'd just go freaking psycho bitch on you. I hated you Dorian. For a supposedly smart girl, our Luce falls for him. He's supposed to be some 'deep, tortured' guy, but honestly I call bullshit. First of all, he's almost sixteen and he falls for a fourteen-year-old MERMAID (no disrespect Luce) and he's like, It's okay Luce, I can resist the urges that a guy wants to do with his girlfriend. YOU. ARE. SIXTEEN. She is FOURTEEN. YOU PERVERT! I will come to your house and bash your skull in with an ice cream scoop. And I will enjoy. every. second.
Anyways, he does a lot of stuff I found despicable and annoying and one thing I literally, I KID YOU NOT, slap the offending book down, stare at my dad (who's watching the Packers play) and shout at him--yes shout- "THIS BOOK SUCKS TOO! I want to murder this author!" To which my dad looks at me slightly concerned (he's been around me too long to be too concerned) and says, "Cassie, it's just a book." Just a book.

Huh.

Anyways, Dorian is pretty much the only issue I had with the book. If you're up for a haunting, lush, and brutally honest journey with a mermaid, you'll love Waking Storms. I was at times staring at the book with huge eyes thinking, DID THAT JUST HAPPEN????!! So yes. You must have a refined taste for this kind of book but it's definitely unique; if you liked Lost Voices you'll like this one just the same.

I will be straight with you: Origin is something that I thought about throwing out the door, but then blew me away when I finished it.

Let me just say this; Origin is a book that has branded itself into my mind. I've always fantasized about living in the jungle, finding a wild, incredibly attractive jungle boy (who hasn't?) and falling in love with it and him. Jessica Khoury takes that lovely dream of a jungle life and created this book. That dream is only a small part of the book; the others are immortality, science, and dark, dark secrets.

Our story starts out with a girl named Pia, and her average day in Little Cam, the place she lives. It's only a little bit until her seventeenth birthday, which she somehow got her Uncle Paolo to throw a party for. See, a party is something unheard of in this community. No one is allowed to mention places outside of Little Cam or things that happen outside of it. Pia overheard one of the staff slip up, and dreams about a party. It's on the night of this party she finds the hole in the fence.

The characters in this book play a role. Not many of them are like-able, but they play a purpose in the story. The scientists are above feelings, for the most part, and when we begin, Pia is too. The villagers (I think they're Ai'oan or Aioan) Pia sneaks off to are warm, vivacious people. Stereotypical, but they show Pia what she's missed out on her whole life. These characters really drag you into it, and feel what Pia feels. 

Pia, our literally "perfect" main character is like-able and has been taught her whole life to listen to her head, not her heart. So she makes a few decisions that I would have questioned otherwise. She's a strong girl with dreams and I admire her for being moral when everyone around her, who she has learned from her whole life, is immoral. However, I didn't enjoy the way she is described. She is aesthetically, physically, and mentally perfect for the most part. I didn't like how she was described as visually perfect with her blue eyes and dark hair (I know, bad me) but I heard Amazon and imagined a kick-ass, tall, strong Amazon girl with a leopard. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Pia seems to lack an "angry" gene because she gets pissed, yeah, but she never does anything about it. She never tried hurting someone, even if it meant saving those she loved. Oh, and her name. All I could think of was "pee" when I saw it...

Eio, our resident hottie, is oh, I don't know... really attractive. Good to read about. He also doesn't have happy hands, I'm glad to say! He's super sweet and loyal and protective and he made me almost bawl. The only issue I had is that he's half-Brazilian (OhmysweetJesus did anyone else think of Francisco Lachowski?)

And he has blue eyes. Half-Brazilians do not have blue eyes. They would be freaks of nature (really yummy freaks of nature, yes) but still freaks of nature. And so that bugged me.

Overall, really great book and it really surprised me. The story that unfolds is something Jessica Khoury did not prepare me for and it is unbearably beautiful and touching. And the scary thing is, it's called science fiction, but I can totally see it happen...
